About
Emergencies can happen anywhere and in supported accommodation every second counts. This accredited Emergency First Aid Level 2 course equips staff working with looked after young people aged 16 to 18 with the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence to act quickly, safely, and professionally in a crisis. Developed in line with UK legislation, Ofsted requirements, and the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023, this course builds practical competence in responding to medical emergencies while maintaining trauma informed care and professional boundaries. Staff learn to assess situations calmly using the DRABC method, deliver life saving techniques such as CPR and the recovery position, and manage common emergencies including bleeding, burns, choking, asthma attacks, and overdose. The course also focuses on the realities of supported accommodation where staff may work alone, face unpredictable situations, and support young people who may be distressed or frightened. Through realistic case studies, reflective exercises, and clear guidance, learners gain confidence in protecting both physical and emotional wellbeing during critical incidents. Participants will understand their legal responsibilities including accurate reporting, safeguarding, and confidentiality under the Children Act, Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations, and GDPR. Each module blends practical first aid knowledge with reflection and resilience, ensuring staff are prepared not just to act, but to recover and learn from every experience. Completing this course supports compliance with Ofsted inspection standards, demonstrates regulatory readiness, and ensures every staff member can play their part in keeping young people safe, supported, and cared for when it matters most.
