Volunteer Support Worker Opportunities

Are you compassionate, reliable, and passionate about helping young people thrive?

We are looking for Volunteer Support Workers to support Looked After Children including Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASCs), aged 16–18, as they prepare for adulthood and independent living. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a young person’s journey and gain valuable experience in supported accommodation and social care.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Support Worker, you will be part of a caring, trauma-informed team working to build a nurturing, safe, and empowering environment for vulnerable young people. Many of the young people we support have experienced trauma, displacement, or instability.

You will:

  • Build consistent, trusting relationships with young people

  • Provide practical help with daily life skills (e.g. cooking, budgeting, time management)

  • Offer emotional support and positive role modelling

  • Encourage participation in education, training, or work

  • Support wellbeing and resilience using a trauma-informed approach

  • Accompany young people to appointments (medical, legal, educational) when needed

  • Maintain clear boundaries, safeguarding practices, and confidentiality

  • Work collaboratively with staff to support care plans

A commitment of just 2 hours a week can make a real difference.

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. You don’t need prior experience — just empathy, consistency, and a desire to support young people.

Essential Qualities:

  • A caring, non-judgemental approach

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Willingness to learn and work as part of a team

  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion

  • Reliability and professionalism

Desirable (but not required):

  • Experience supporting young people or vulnerable groups

  • Awareness of trauma, mental health, or asylum-seeking experiences

What You’ll Gain

  • Full training and induction

  • Ongoing support and supervision

  • Experience that may lead to paid roles in social care

  • Reimbursed travel expenses (where applicable)

  • The chance to make a lasting impact in a young person’s life
