About

This engaging and accessible course has been designed specifically for staff working with young people aged sixteen to eighteen in supported accommodation settings. The training explores how the rights of young people and the responsibilities of staff come together within the requirements of the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act. It supports staff to understand exactly what good confidentiality practice looks like and how it protects the safety, dignity and trust of every young person in their care. Throughout the course, learners will explore what personal data is, why it must be handled carefully, and how secure record keeping is essential for effective safeguarding. Using realistic examples from supported accommodation environments, the training shows how small everyday decisions can have a big impact on the privacy and wellbeing of young people. Staff will learn how to identify and respond to data breaches, how to report incidents quickly, and how to use reflective practice to prevent issues from happening again. The training also emphasises the importance of building a culture where privacy is respected by everyone. Learners will consider what leadership, team communication and transparent practice look like in a setting that takes data protection seriously. The course highlights how strong confidentiality practice links to trauma informed care and helps build trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced previous disruption or a lack of privacy in their lives. By the end of this course, staff will feel confident in their role, understand their legal responsibilities, and know how to uphold safe and ethical standards every day. This course supports compliance with Ofsted requirements and demonstrates a commitment to high quality practice and professional integrity within supported accommodation.
